Thanked: 228Uh oh! You blew it. Now you may be bidding against one of us? Unless there is.............honor among thieves? Don't know if that applies to Barber hones?

I don't know about honor amongst most, but never been used, I don't think that's an accurate description. Tc

The hone is in rough condition to say the least.

Thanked: 481Looks like a 40 dollar paper weight to me truth to be told. I'd hold out for a hone that had fewer dimples.

Thanked: 39It says in good condition, which can cover a lot of ground in that meaning, It just caught my eye because of the size and figured a good lapping would bring it back to life.

Thanked: 481Barber's hones are typically in the 'do not lap under any circumstances' category. Some of them are made with a binding material that will fall apart if lapped, some only have cutting material on the cutting surface of the hone that can easily be lapped away. Others are made with a really hard binder and cutting metering all the way through, but will require more prep than an Arkansas stone to get back into fighting form once lapped. They're best left and used as-is.

That thing has been on there forever... when I was in my BH collecting phase I seriously considered it but moved on. For the money you can get a much nicer hone but it's your money.

Thanked: 101I have a three line Swatty that had scratches on both honing sides. I lightly lapped it with my Norton lapping stone then a King 1000 grit & it took out the scratches pretty well & did not ruin the stone for it's use.
My favorite BH is my John Primble. of all my BH's it. gives the smoothest edge fastest. I use Smith's honing solution on my BH's finding it works best for me.

Thanked: 246The fired stones with ceramic binder and pretty much any Carborundum barber hone can be lapped with no ill effects as long as they are smoothed/polished afterwards - otherwise you'll end up with a bevel setter, lol. Some of the others can and some can't, so it's best not to risk it unless you don't care if you lose the stone.
