Thanked: 20Hone ID please
This stone is a natural , and is black, very smooth and fine like glass, it will slurry white but very slow to slurry. It is a very good finisher and would like help in identifying it,thanks. I did buy it here at SRP from someone who thought it to be thuringian but I personally don't believe it to be thuringian.

Hone ID please
On the first view it looks like a slate stone, but as it really looks well polished i think it might be a Hard or Hard Black Arkansas, also a totally white slurry speaks for an Ark...
Did you polished the stone that way or did you got it that way ?
Can you add some slurry and daylight shots ?███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Thanked: 20It does lean more into a hard black Arkansas hone, I lapped it with a dmt ,600 grit plate and it polished up with a shiny glass like finish, thanks for the info.

Thanked: 246That looks more like a basalt to me. Is the stone coloration itself very uniform or does it have sort of a spotty look? Arks are very uniform in color usually, though sometimes they have some streaks. Basalt often shows a sort of spotty coloration and polishes to a high shine much easier than an Ark.

Thanked: 3215What is the finish on the bevel like?
A black ark will leave a hazy, Kazumi finish, Slates will leave a straited finish, under magnification.

Thanked: 20I suppose an Arkansas hone is a close guess as to what it is. I have many types of Arkansas hones but not like this one. This hone is solid black, and smooth as glass, almost like obsidian. It is the best finisher that I have owned and tried, I have only used water with it though.

Thanked: 20I don't think it is black granite, if it were granite I would go buy pounds of it right now,LOL. I am not familiar with a la lune. I looked for some pics and found a couple here and they are solid black and very smooth looking like this one.
