Thanked: 90Silver hybrid bout Rustique info?
Ok so I got this hybrid bout Rustique from Germany and it is a strange hybrid coticule. I have looked through hundreds and hundreds of images and pages looking for anything even close. I know some strange ones exist because I saw some in my looking. Only none with this silver to them. The edges have been incredible so far off this. A bit crisper and keener not as smart an edge as a usual coti. It will bite you, but leaves the face feeling very nice and refreshed with no irritation.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has seen one with this silver or has one? If you know what would make this color in a coticule? I can see layers on the side, with some possible LL coming through the center of this hybrid plus Manganese running all the way through showing on the bottom too.
First pics show the hone with a normal LL bout hybrid side next to it for color comparison.

Yes he must. I just bought an Escher from him. I think I bid on that hybrid. Nice looking stone. I'm glad someone here got it.

Thanked: 90Thanks for not making me pay more. Thomas was the nicest seller I have ever bought from. He talked back and forth with me for a while and even wanted me to let him know how my razors performed from that hone.
I actually sealed the bottom and sides due to some areas where water could get in. Looks even nicer now. The black manganese spots on the bottom almost stick out.
I know it is a coticule, but can't find anything with this silver color to it.

I won't get into bidding wars its just counter productive but I was very interested in that stone. Did you try looking on coticule.be web site they have a lot of stones they have cataloged? You might find something in the ballpark.

Thanked: 90I had a set amount a bit higher than it went for not to much though. I usually choose an amount and stick with it. I don't like bidding wars either. I didn't know what to think till I tried it out.
Yeah I looked at coticule.be and on the another site there is a thread with 392 pages with lots of coticules even really odd hybrids, but nothing like this. The closest was a mix of grey white purple black with an almost silvery center. Even looked through Grinding and honing parts 3 and 4. I figure this is just a one off odd ball, but keep wondering if it was an old hybrid layer from an old mine that there just wasn't much of it and only a few hones ever were made. I have seen a few old vintage hybrids, but no one really used hybrids till recent times so that could be it too.
I google image searched too.
I am curious of when it was mined and how. Thomas said he had it for many years, but thought it was from the 1920's or so. If that is correct I would think maybe it was one someone found and made into a hone vs mined. Either that or maybe it is much older. Probably will never know. I wonder if Maurice Celis at the mine would have any idea.

Well regardless its a nice stone. The bottom line is the performance. If you are a member of coticule.be post this thread with them. Bart is the coticule guru.

I am not sure. I know there isn't a lot of activity. I joined about a month ago and received a response from Bart. I never tried to post anything.
