Thread: Escher copy

How is that for an Escher copy. Same theme and colors on the label.

Is that the Gold Fifty Cent razor hone?

The stone is probably lumpy, very hard and you have to grind away half the box to use it…

It is an Apex waterstone. I have seen Apex Thuringers before. I have a Stukenbrock Thuringer with a label that looks even more like an Escher label.

This stone is currently on ebay. I just thought it was funny how other companies even 100 years ago were playing follow the leader.

I knew you would chime in. It is about time you visit Laar to see all these hones in person.
It is a grey Thuringian stone, not as fine as the Hohenzollern or Y/G Escher. I haven't used it for ages. Box is very similar to the Barbers' Delight box.

Stukenbrok is one of the first mail order companies in Germany. Its catalogues are collectors' items and some have been reprinted. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stukenbrok

As said here its a product from Apex Schleifmittel KG which was based in Sonneberg too, i would tend to say its a typical Thuringian stone.

Founded 1925 from Hermann Reimann, based in Sonneberg until 1949. the company is still in Family ownership till today and they are still active. More on their history can be found here (german):

On page 78 with article number Nr. 1218 they show an Escher Stone. Actually either to be used with water or oil ;-)

I am not sure the stone above is an Thuringian. I never saw a Thuringian label recommending use with oil, most of them recommend to keep them away from oil. It does not have a rubbing stone, most Thuringians with a barbershop scene label came with space for a rubbing stone in the box.

Agreed, Could be one of the stones sold als Ideal Abziehstein
