Default Does oil work well with a coticule?

Has anyone tried oil with a coticule? Will it have an adverse effect on the properties of the stone?

Default Does oil work well with a coticule?

Oil, honing Solution or other buffer substances are generally used on specific types of natural stones.

In the past Coticules were used with oil and have been traded especially under the pseudonym of "Belgian Oil Stones".

So for my point of view there has been a advantage in the past to use these stones with oil.

As times and behaviors change, also procedures change and i would like to say that i dont really know if today a Coticule would have any advantages if it would be used with oil. Several new procedures (Unicot, Dilocut, honing under running water) have been created and many different approaches have been tried...

So i personally never tried oil on my Coticules, but iam also sure we have some members who tried it and might tell some of their findings here.

Oil leaves a finer edge but some stones can soak up oil. I have seen coticules that had oil on them and others where it didnt matter.
