Well, it is true the more you shave the better the shaves get and the more you will expect from your edges. Probably why most of us are here, looking for more, if it exist…

It is absolutely possible, that you don’t have to spend a lot to get a good shave, but it is also possible your edge is not as good as you think. And that is the beauty of a straight razor, you can tailor you edge to your face, pocketbook and abilities.

One thing for sure, a year from now your shave will be infinitely better than they are now, based on nothing else other than your shaving technique and your stropping abilities.

    Rock, on…

A hint: Try old toolboxes or kitchen utensil sections, people don't realize they are for razors or after the user started using a DE or other safety razor they got re-purposed. I've found a few in toolboxes.

Nice strop. I stropped my Kamisori on one this morning and the shave was excellent.

I have a knock-off or no-name Swaty that gets a really fine edge on most any razor that has not been neglected. You are right, you don't have to spend a lot to get a great shave.

Toolboxes doesn't surprise me - that's where my grandfather kept most of his, though his pocket knife Arkies stayed in a drawer near his chair for easy access. For some reason I never would've considered kitchen sections though. It makes sense though.

Just to be clear I have no problems with wine drinkers or rock collectors. My wife is the former. I was just curious if there were other people like me who could not tell the difference. Even the hobbies that I am fairly good at and have overspent on, I would have to admit that I can do well with anything if my game is on that day, but if nice equipment gives you a positive mental advantage, then it is worth the cost to the buyer.

Load me any DE blade out of St. Pete and I could not tell you which one it was either.
