    Default Hone identification help

    HI I PICKED THIS HONE UP LAST WEEK WITH A COUPLE OF OTHERS . A WASHITA AND A LARGE GREEN STONE WHICH I ALSO MAY NEED HELP IDENTIFYING . THIS IS A BLACK STONE WITH THE REMNANTS OF A LABEL WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A YELLOW LAKE LABEL BUT IT DOES NOT MATCH THE LABEL I HAVE . CHEERS .Name:  SAM_8777 (2).jpg

    Looks like a Salmen hone to me Welsh slate I belive I have several of them some 8"x2"x1" like yours some are the 1/2 inch thickness most of mine have been Name:  P1070341.jpg

    That said this is the only Salmen hone I have with the label, all the others are just in the cardboard box's.

    I like mine most seem to be about the 8k region, I have found them easy enough to lap and get to a hone ready state, enjoy and congrats.

    Oh and Hi there neighbour. didnt realise you lived so close.

    Cheers DINO I have no doubt it is a salmon after seeing your picture where do you pick yours up . I go hunting at car boot sales my self .

    I got mine on eBay, but I do get some stones at carboots, not that I need anymore stones!

    What razor do you use I'm thinking of starting to use a straight razor .

    I have quite a few different razors, I hone them myself, The main thing is make sure you have one that is shave ready, (If not send it out to a reputable honer there are quite a few here in the UK prices are very reasonable.
    Where are you based in Merseyside?

    I have a few razors that i have picked up they do need attention . I live in Broadgreen at the end of the M62 .

    That's close to me less than 10 miles.
