There is a difference in Hard Arkansas stones and true hard ones such as the translucent or surgical black.

A progression would be like this:

    Soft Ark
    Hard Ark
    Surgical black or Translucent.

I'm assuming by Norton Hard stone he means a vintage True Hard/Surgical black.

Yes a translucent ark of old. I can't wait to share. I got it for a steal after searching for a long time.

Wow , nice looking rocks, I sure do love a Norton stone. Is that a washita from 2006 when they did a new run? All the washita stones I have seen are smoke stained yellow to lily white.

I think the modern run came in blue and white boxes. I have a couple old NOS Lily White Washitas that are pretty close to pure white, they're just not super common because the stones were so good that they mostly all got used and yellowed from oil.

I don't know. It smelled bad of mold, so it has been sitting around for a long time. It was never used.

I meant the stone beside it. On the right.

I had only read about later runs of the Lily White, so that is what I was assuming you meant. What do we call the one on the right? "Washita" or "Washita #1"?

I have one like that. Produces a cool purple slurry similar to my BBW.
