I just decided to get a Chosera 1k.
I've set a number of razors on 12um film. They came out nice, but it takes a long time. And repairs do take forever - which means I've lost patience and tried using 30um film and an fairly low grit Arkansas oil stone, neither of which was probably ideal.
I figure the Chosera 1k will allow to properly set razors, and from there everything else is compartively easy. I've got a Charnley Forest hone on the way (for finishing), and the films do well post bevel setting anyway.

You can't go wrong with a Chosera 1k.
