Thanked: 2591Yes people buy $1k or more expensive Jnats. 1K is not that much really, there are some that cost a lot more. For example in 2010 or 2011 I was shown this Nakayama Habutae that was priced at $8000, the price coming from the uniformity , rarity and size of such hone. Some folks are collectors and will pay that kind of money.

Thanked: 90I agree seems like a roll of the dice for that kind of money, but they probably figure it is cheaper and may get a better deal this way. Say the stone cost them 1K it may sell in a store for twice that. Sometimes the people buying these are also reselling to make money not use the stone or collect it.

I know a guy who paid north of 2K for a j-nat. Not off of ebay though. I've seen a couple of Eschers go just under 1k a couple of years ago.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
