I post these to let people know that great hones are still available!
For a Thuringer:
Usually no oil smell
Usually like a 1by2 or a 2x4 of a given length or form factor or 3by5 for some.
Heavy for the size.
Cannot feel a grit by scratching with a finger nail
Colors from Black to dirty yellow.
Scratches on most surfaces.
A lot of other stones were made to these sizes also. And they vary a lot.
Get to know what they look like and enjoy the fun of the hunt!!

Absolutely you are correct. Many Germanic immigrants settled in the northern tier states..

Wow! What a find...congrats, that's a beautiful stone, and found in the wild...was it under $50 USD??? LOL
