    You need to remember that 'all barber hones aren't equal'. ..and they don't work equally well with all razors.
    Like all hones, they have to be lapped before using.

    No. Barber hones certainly are not like all hones and lapping is detrimental both to their surface and function.

    If you plan to send them out to be honed, you do not need a 12k or barbers hone. Use a pasted strop to attempt refreshing. 8 to 10 strokes on crox or diamond. You don't really even need that, just send one out when it is pulling or not shaving comfortably.

    Welcome to the straight razor world! Sounds like you have only one razor. To add to what others have said, you can always consider getting a second razor (there are pretty reasonably priced ones in the classifieds and they're shave ready).

    This way, when your razor starts to pull, you can switch to the second razor, while you decide what to do with the first one. That gives you an option to send it out, or try a refreshing with hone or pasted strop, etc.

    Without a second razor, you could go back to whatever method you used before the straight razor, while refreshing/sending out the razor, but what fun is that?

    truer words never said. I have a DE for my back up, But I plan on getting another razor for just that reason.
