If you are looking to change edges again contact Oz. Sure he has a couple hones might be able to finish a razor on to see if you like the feeling of the edge. Or have a discussion with Dion about the different options. A mentor can make it a lot easier
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thank you. I feel unqualified to even really discuss all this but, if I wait til I know what's what, I'll never get anywhere. I'm gonna jump in & ask questions as they arise

Thanked: 104A lot of what has been said is correct. IMHO, your new razor being sharp, I'd feel it on my thumb pad, shave with it. Note how it feels and try and remember it. Your strop should keep it shaving for at least 3 weeks. That takes into account, you are learning to strop as well, so it's possible you will jag the razor into some leather. The world isn't perfect. When after stropping fails to make your razor shave right, the best, most versatile hone, is IMO the naniwa 8k superstone/speciality stone. It is a stone that will sit in your line up forever. It is at the point where a razor becomes shave ready. The old and agreed method is that you can shave off of an 8k stone. the brand is a matter for you, Shapton Glass for a beginner is more user friendly than the Shapton pro series. with the naniwa 8k you can stay at a level, of acceptability as far as the shave goes, whilst you learn the stroke, pressure, keeping a hone flat, you are learning the skills needed to go from say a 1k stone, through 3,5,8,10,12,16,20,30. In whatever brand or progression you like. Don't go out and buy 4 or 5 stones to start with, with the greatest respect mate, you will stuff up more blades than you get right. You won't be able to walk past that pile of hones, you will mess with them on day 1, I promise you, and in four days, it's back to the honemeister to 'fix' things. We've all done it. Start slow and steady. You need to know how to shave before you need to learn to hone. You have a shave sharp ready razor. You won't need a stone less than an 8k for 6 months forget buying a bevel setting 1k. If you need it in month1 then you have destroyed the razor...lol Cheers mate. Bob
