Thanked: 21CKTG 400/1000
I was saving for the CKTG 400/1000 for my lapping plate, and for creating slurry. I've heard good things about this model on this forum, and like that it is double sided, and the price is right. Unfortunately, CKTG is out of stock. CKTG Combination Diamond Plate 400/1,000
Just wondering if there are any alternatives? Of course there is the DMT and Atoma. Both are out of my price range, as I'm also saving up for a finishing hone.
Thoughts?

I use sandpaper on plate glass. It's effective and I like the results better, the Atomas cut well but scratch more deeply. A DMT works fine after it's broken in but sticks to the stone.
So a piece of tempered plate glass or granite say 11x14 to 16x20 is great. You can also use loose silicon carbide grit on it if you need to get serious.

Thanked: 21I've been using sandpaper too. But it is getting expensive. What brand do you use?

Whatever I have handy in the coarser grits. I use 60 through 180 grit dry, then 320 and up wet. Usually the coarse dry stuff from Home Depot or Lowe's, the rest 3M, Lion automotive, Norton....
Sandpaper is pricy for what it is, but you can buy a few sheets at a time and use them over multiple times.
Toolsfromjapan.com sells Atoma replacement sheets, so you could buy one plate and a replacement sheet in a different grit, make a two-sided Atoma and save a little, but not much.
Atoma diamond plates. : Tools from Japan, Japanese woodworking tools direct from Japan.
You can get a 300/1000 iWood there for about $58. Never used the plate, but it's recommended for stone flattening and I have used iWood foil and like it.

I bought the 400/1000 off Amazon and it works well. They dropped it on a corner and I had to file it flat but the plate is good.
