Default Big Horn Diamond Hone / Lapping Plate

Been searching for a diamond lapping plate that I can also use to set a bevel and maybe use on some knives too. The CKTG 400/1000 is still out of stock. I came across this item on amazon, and thought about giving it a try. Comes with an adjustable holder too. Looks like a decent deal - good price and free shipping from US.

Just checking to see if anyone has any experience with this item? I'll be using it mostly to lap my Norton 4/8K and create slurry. Occasional bevel set too...

    Thanks!

Those diamond plates are chinese production and they are avaibl in many brands on Ebay and Amazon .
Dont be fooled by the inscription Made in USA - it is a lie . Only DMT , Atoma , Shapton and Eze lap are made out of China
You can pick one the same from chinese seller on a better prise alround 25 $

I too have seen those around and on EBay, but have not tried them. I have bought some plates from an EBay seller from China, (diamondtools30) a couple years ago and they are nice plates. But they are thin, about 3/16ths thick. They do work well and the diamonds are even, not like the Harbor Freight ones.

I saw a similar plate and even tried it a couple years ago when a guy was demonstrating it for sharpening knives at a Swap Meet, they looked nice and were selling for about $20, but with a plastic holder.

The plates that CKTG sells, look like the IWood plates. I have an IWood and the CKTG plates and they look and perform identical. I have seen several folks selling IWood, though a bit more, than CKTG. So you might search IWood.

The holder looks like a Steelex or a knockoff, Steelex are good holders and come in handy for lifting a stone off a table so your hands have some clearance. They do make a version with a thinner notch, for diamond plates, but either will work with stones or plates. I never lock my stones or plates in the holder, and just set them on top of it.

I think a Steelex holder is about 15-20 bucks, so that may not be a bad deal.

    Identical to my CKTG.

I never use my diamond plates for bevel setting on razors. They work really well for chisels and knives. I forget what brand mine are but they were a bit more money, I did get them from Lee Valley. I like them a lot but given a do over I t think I would shop around first. I think you are on the right track.
