Thanked: 246Lily White Washitas are good stuff for sure. I've got a couple, and they can be slightly translucent, but nothing like a regular translucent Arkansas finishing stone - they will mostly just transmit a little bit of light near the edges if they do at all. One of mine does, the other doesn't (both are labeled stones). I think Ouachita is the French or Indian spelling. They will finish a straight with an okay edge after they are worn in and smoothed quite a bit and especially if you do the last bit edge trailing.

Thanked: 8I'd be very interested in that
There seem to be two lines of thought regarding these:
1) Washitas as a class of Arkansas stone
2) Washitas as a seperate kind of stone
I found the following video very useful:
kind regards

Now, is it pronounced Wah-she-ta or Wash-it-ah?

Real work horse stone all(one's I have) cut relatively fast and one just blows me away. It cuts faster than the two and is finer, that is why she will never leave my side until I die. First stone I though was a wow stone and for 15 dollars you can not beat it. My first real gem(8×2×1 3/8). Reveseable lily white is no slouch either and skinny one is pefect for chisels( one stone hone).
