Well guys the hone is mine [emoji4] it's not a novaculite. It's harder then most slate hones and does look a bit like a raw coticule. It is however a slate. When I lapped it, it was very hard and the dust almost white.
I have added some pictures dry, wet, with slurry and the underside which is skinned, like Mikael said.
It could be the legendary Cutlers Green, but is properly a kind of Lynn Idwal.
My stone is a slow finisher. It's difficult to guess grit on a natural, but I think around 10K using glycerin, water and plenty of patience.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4ffe0ca13e.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6990833de2.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f3c3620991.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0b5d3a01e5.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fe8938cc1d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1f2310b74d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b822d6c37c.jpg

It's in line with what I think. The edges off of mine are extremely smooth but not top level sharp. Acceptable though. I don't think it has more to give than I have gotten from it. It's not the worst finisher I have ever used by any measure. Rather smooth and tame vs one that is too hot or overly toothy
