Default Who has a similar uk green hone?

Got this the other day. Have been fighting it with 120 sic. It seems to be slate. The slurry has a hint of green in it. There are scattered black dots. A few surface ripples, it's dense and while it laps material away readily, it takes a lot of effort even with sic to get where you're going. It was used with oil but the oil did not seem to penetrate really even though the box was so saturated it soaked oil into the packaging. It was littered with razor breadknifes as well as channels from fine points being honed. Color is a rich drab green for one half transitionng to a green on the other end with hints of yellow peeking through.

One of my friends has one. Also from the UK. His has skin on the backside looks like a jNat. He thinks it's a lIyn Idwal.

It's a pretty sweet stone but nothing super special.

Looks like a Llyn Idwal, Grecian, and was probably used to sharpen gravers. 60 grit Silicone Carbide from Got Grit.com and a cookie sheet will get you flat in about 20 minutes.

There are many flattening threads in the Hones forum, search flattening Arks. Nice looking stone, some are finishers.

Here is a good thread. Hone ID Green stone

I don't think the one I tried is novaculite either. I've found a picture of the one I mentioned before. It's the big one in the middle.

Looks similar. When I bought it, I figured it would be a weird variant of a LI or cf but one corner of this hone immediately told me I was wrong about it being novaculite

I have one like that. Was never 100% sure it was an LI
Very find finisher, but not as fine as my CF

Found a better picture. We were never really sure of the ID either. Cool stone whatever it is.

Aah, same stuff. It appears to be slate. Iron loaded is my guess going by the colors. It seems like it would be better with oil, lather, glycerin mix or some other water soluble mix given the hardness. What did you guys use as the buffer? I finally got one side flat and am truing the back as I hate lopsided hones in hand.
