    Well guys the hone is mine [emoji4] it's not a novaculite. It's harder then most slate hones and does look a bit like a raw coticule. It is however a slate. When I lapped it, it was very hard and the dust almost white.

    I have added some pictures dry, wet, with slurry and the underside which is skinned, like Mikael said.

    It could be the legendary Cutlers Green, but is properly a kind of Lynn Idwal.

    My stone is a slow finisher. It's difficult to guess grit on a natural, but I think around 10K using glycerin, water and plenty of patience.

    It's in line with what I think. The edges off of mine are extremely smooth but not top level sharp. Acceptable though. I don't think it has more to give than I have gotten from it. It's not the worst finisher I have ever used by any measure. Rather smooth and tame vs one that is too hot or overly toothy
