Naniwa Professional
Hi Guys!
All over youtube the Chosera 1000 from naniwa has a pretty good reputation as far as Razor bevels setting goes.
Im looking to get the newer Naniwa professional 1000 as a bevel setter.
Im just wondering if this is as good as the chosera and is worth getting? or if its rubbish in comparison?
im not too keen on the ss because ill be also using it for knives sometimes, and heard the ss's were a bit softer?
Cheers!

Thanked: 13245I just traded for a new Professional,,
I still haven't worn totally through the old Chosera so it is sitting in it's box still ..
I have tried the Pro at a couple of the meets and I just don't really see a discernible difference between the two Naniwa says the Pro is better, maybe a few 1000 bevel sets down the road I will change my mind

Thanked: 481I thought the professional line is what they renamed the Chosera line to, and the Super stones became Specialty Stones?

BUT
They did make changes to both lines also
Chosera is now Professional
Super is now Specialty
They are both supposed to be improvements too

Thanked: 1081Naniwa have improved the binding agents in both series.
I have both the 10k superstone and 10k speciality and i cant see/feel any difference.
Jakob. The Chosera 1k is a great hone and will do everything and more than you need it to do.

Thanked: 481Maybe it was just to address the way the hones would warp/crack in certain climates if it was just a change in the binding material. That was really the only 'problem' I ever saw with them, and IIRC proper care could circumvent the problem.

Thanked: 3795They are new and improved!
Actually, I have no idea but the company says so. Even if it is just in name, the newer versions have been around long enough and I'm not aware of anyone bad-mouthing them. Basically, I am saying that I believe that you can buy the Professional with complete confidence.
Regarding the Superstone/Specialty, yes they are softer.

Thanked: 3215You might want to take a look at Lynn’s new, Naniwa Traditional 1k stone video.
My experience is that most 1k feel different, but pretty much leave the same 1k finish.
The Traditional 1k is only $30.

Thanked: 96Lynn recommended the Traditional 1k Naniwa and I really like it. Have to soak it, but has a really nice feel. Works very quickly. Edge seems to be smoother then other stones I've tried. Can't beat the price.
