Thanked: 21Apart barber hone
Picked up an Apart Barber Hone. Wondering what side to use. Is it a two sided hone with different grit levels? And overall thoughts from those that use one.
I tried searching for other threads on this hone but kept getting too many results ...
Thx

You are going to end up with to many barber hones just like me Apart is a good hone. I believe it is just like the old two line swaty both sides are the same. Only the three line swaty and the American three line swaty have a fine side and a fast cutting side (on the face side). You could try always finishing on the face side just in case I am wrong.

Thanked: 21Haha! I just love hitting antique shops and looking for treasures. Looking forward to what kind of a shave I get off a barber hone. Thx for the response!

Thanked: 481Most of the uniform color stones I've seen are same grit either side. If it's dual color, then usually one side is fine and the other a bit more coarse. There's always an exception to the rule somewhere though.

I have this one you can read at the bottom of the skinny paper it talks about the reverse side of this American three line hone being finer. I will post the paper on the Three line swaty and anything I can find on the Apart. I have a problem over here I am married and things move around in my house. I am looking !!!!!

Thanked: 481Interesting, I didn't know the back was supposed to be less fine than the front. Well, I'm sure over the years with use and abuse most have taken a burnish and there's little if any difference one side to the next.
