Little two-sided combo hone
Here's a little two sided hone I found for a couple bucks last summer. I don't know what it is but maybe someone here does. I'm not that familiar with Arkansas stones but that would be my guess. Both sides are super hard and the white side is like glass. The purpleish streaked side seems coarser than the white. Maybe I can use it somewhere in a razor honing progression? If not it can use it for knives. Neat looking hone, thought I'd share it.

Thanked: 481Most Arkansas combination hones fall into 2 categories - a soft Arkansas paired with a Hard, and a Soft Arkansas paired with a Surgical Black. Just for fun, take a bright light and hold it up to the white side, see if it carries through the stone. If that white side is translucent you could have a nice little all in one type of stone. Translucents make for really nice finishers, and soft Arkies are good for coarse to mid level work, so with a little patience you can pretty much do it all on a soft/black (or soft/translucent if you happened to find such a critter). I guess the other option would be a Washita/Translucent, but I dunno what to make of the Washita part of these:

My wager is soft/hard though. They're pretty common. Soft is good for light bevel setting and mid range stuff, Hard is good for mid to high mid level work. You'd probably want something else to finish with, but it would definitely make a good knife hone, and at least 2/3 of a decent Arkie progression.

Colored like quite a few Soft/Hard arkies that I've seen.
