Thread: Scored a nice Translucent Arkansas at an antique store yesterday

Just wanted to show off my newest addition. Not sure what the black one is just yet but the other is a 7 3/4" × 1 3/4" Trans Arkie. My other Trans Arkies are much smaller so I'm pretty thrilled with this find.

What a cool coffin box too. Excellent score.

The black one is glued in and I'm pretty sure the Trans Ark was glued in originally as well as it's less refined on one side with visible chisel marks. At least I think it's chisel marks. Just adds character imo. I like this rock a whole heckuva lot.

Thanks. It is a very well constructed and attractive box. I haven't seen one like it before. I think after a good cleaning with some Murphy's it will really pop.

Very nice find, the black one is probably an old Surgical Black, and may not be glued in. Most of the old ones I have found were glued in by swarf or shrinkage of the box.

Tap the top edge of the box, down on one end with a small hammer. Just a few light taps will break the bond, you will hear the difference in the sound when it breaks loose, light taps are all you need.

I have had great results with 99 Cent Store "Awsome". A couple ounces in a glass pasta jar and water, let it soak, may take a week or so.

Definitely Leather, but that coffin box is so cool. A sweet find!

Sure is. It's a little rough but not completely beyond repair.

Might not be glued in but it sure ain't wanting to budge. I'll keep fiddling with it and see if I can make any headway.
