Default Can this SWATY hone still be used even though it has a nick?

I just got this SWATY hone off eBay delivered today. Lo and behold there is a nick on the backside that could not be seen in the pictures. When I messaged the seller before purchase re: any nicks he replied "No." I have tried to upload a photo so that you can all see the nick.

Can I still use this hone with the nick? Is there anything I can do about the nick?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you can feel the nick with a blade I would take some very fine sandpaper and round off the edges of it slightly and use it as is.

Hold the stone such that you don't hone where the nick is.

In other words, hold it so that the chipped side is facing away from your hand that is holding the razor.

Also, although some people doubt that there is a difference from one side to the other, Swaty instructions frequently say that one side is coarser than the other. Ergo, you can use the other side. As mentioned above. Smooth the edges of the nick down to where it doesn't contact the edge and you can use both sides.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks everyone for all the really helpful suggestions. I don't know where my straight razor path would be without you.

If I remember the instructions correctly, the face with the stamp is typically the finer side. So if that's on the back side OP is in pretty good shape.

Thanks for that information. Yes, it is on the backside.
