Thread: Hone ID help

So I soaked this stone and purple power for approximately two days. I just got done boiling the stone for about 45 minutes. I lapped One side nearly flat. It still has the smell of oil, so for the boiling may be required. Let me know if these pictures or more helpful or if further pictures are required. Thank you.

Ok, thanks for the photos, it’s not a Hindostane, it would have a layered look on the sides, looks more like a Dalamor and not an Ark.

When you lapped it, how hard is it, and what did you lap it with?

Be careful boiling, you can crack it. Getting it hot in some cleaning solution works to get the deep oil out but it can still take days. I have used a slow cooker, from the thrift store, but do not like leaving it on that long. If you heat it let it air cool slowly.

That Purple Power is good stuff, if you want to get all the oil out, soak it in that and water, for a week or more in a sealed container.

I would be curious about hardness and what kind of finish it will leave, Dalamor and Washita type Arks are mid grit stone, great for knives. Or as pre finishers.
