Thanked: 14R H Preyda Arkie combo
So I was at Smokey Mtn Knife Works and this followed me home. Combo soft ark with hard black on other side 8x2 inch. Was like $45. I think RHPreyda bought out what used to be Halls. Very flat, no lap.
This soft side really grabs whatever you put on it- nice feel/feedback.
The black side has some banding, is not deep black like some but super smooth and reflective.
This auction site LeCoultre went the whole way from dull to shave on the RHP stone and the result was as good as that off any finisher I have, just slower, no surprise there. When the soft side would start to glaze I refreshed it with a couple passes of DMT 325 to get it back in the fight. Water with a few drops of Smiths.
Glad I got it. Pocket knives on the soft side almost as much fun as a razor- I'm working on freehanding (no angle guide) knives and with this stone you can really feel when the bevel is laying flat.

Thanked: 481Nice stone, and at a pretty good price too! Love an Arkansas stone success story. I think I mentioned to someone on this site that a Soft/Black combo was all you'd need. Well, this is proof of concept. Maybe not the fastest progression on the planet, but enough to get where you need to go.

Wow, nice Arkie at a great price! I need to get back up there. Last time I was there they had display cases FULL of awesome razors from an estate. Somebody didn't know what they had, as I was getting 5 for $100 deals on big Sheffield choppers in excellent condition-I'll never see that again!
