Maybe my terminology is off.
When I say dull I mean smooth as if the edge is rounded , yet it shaves very close.. This is the desired effect of all my honing..
Granted im an Escher novice but I will learn and I will have a lighter coloured one , if for nothing els so I can compare to my current stone.
Crisp edges to me conjure up thoughts of weepers and a sore face
Does this mean I caused the shiny spots by burnishing with a Tomo? or is it natural?Quote:

Also, I only ever use just water.
In a way you're better off never shaving off of the 8k. Once your honing becomes really proficient, and you shave off of the 8k, you realize that you didn't need any higher grit hones, but you would be fine if the 8k is all that you had ! :gaah:Quote:

Burnishing is caused by using the stone - i.e. by the razor on the stone.Quote:

That is Thomas who is selling that stone. A very knowledgeable collector, and I would say an expert on Escher/Thuringan stones. I haven't messaged him in a couple of years, but he was writing a pamphlet on the Escher razor hones. I would trust what he says.Quote:
