    Default Challenging sharpening stone identification!

Well I have no clue what this is. It's a translucent White Stone that's as soft as a thuringian. Any guesses??

I'd be tempted to say a very clean Hindustan type. Mine is a lot browner than that and shows layer banding on the sides, but when clean it has small areas of pure white.

The level of transparency doesn't seem right for a Hindustan. Mine is certainly not transparent.

Where did it come from? Feldspar around Boston was briefly exploited many years ago as a substitute for turkish oilstone.

You should always try to include all dimensions and also pictures of any visible sawcuts on ID threads, but that one is already interesting. How are you quantifying the hardness? Hold the stone between two fingers so it's hanging vertically and tap it gently with a razor spine or similar item. What sort of noise pitch do you hear when tapped? High, low, ringing or flat.

Thank you for the help! I was about to make a post with a bunch more information about my particular Stone but it looks like I don't need it! I'll still post size and better pictures later though!
