I would like your help on identifying my hone please, is this a vintage coticule without backing or not?

I cant help you, but Ill give you a tip. Upload a picture from the side of the hone so that the sawmarks (if any) are visible. And brovide the measures of the stone. That will help identifying your hone!

Can you take a closeup shot like this please?
As the time passes, so we learn.

Thanked: 1Unfortunately the hone has no sawmarks as it is polished all around, another thing about it is that it has a distinctive smell when wet.
I hope this photo is good enough.

I think it's an artificial stone - no coticule in my opinion.

Thanked: 246Not sure about that Peter; the picture in which a bit of the end is visible sure looks like a natural combo coti/BBW. We need some better side shots to be sure which is the case I think.

side photos work best when identifying coticules.

Thanked: 246Yeah that end shot that I'm taking about (the 2nd one) could be a beveled edge that's just got a deeper shadow, but no way to say for sure without better side photos. The surface does appear awfully regular, but I've got a coticule that's even more uniform and it's legit.

Thanked: 1First of all thank you all for trying to help, here are some more photos and I am really sorry for having troubled you so much but I am trying to identify the hone in order to know how to work with it (with slurry or just water, soak it first or not) I have to say it's a hard stone and a good finisher as it gives a nice polished edge.
