    Hey guys,

I bought this hone a while ago and have no idea what it is. Any clues? It feels as smooth as glass.

Looks like it needs a good cleaning, is that sheen in the second picture oil? Or lapping, may need that too. Hard to say what it is the way it looks currently. My WAG is Cnat, but that's based more on the saw marks than anything I see in the stone.

Clean it up, polish away the wear in the first pic so we can see what the rock itself looks like. Pictures of the sides and back would be helpful as well. Maybe some with a little slurry worked up on the surface too?

That yellow stripe down the back, and all those saw marks scream Cnat/PHIG/Chinese 12K/Guangxi Hone.

Edit: The good ones are pretty decent razor finishers. But they're kinda hit & miss.

Measure the length, width and thickness of the hone. That will help in identification.

Marshal nailed it on the head. If price point helps any, the person I got it from said they originally bought it for about $75.

I'd certainly hope not. I think you've got one of these:

    https://www.woodcraft.com/products/n...tone-8-x-2-x-1

Which again, can be a pretty good stone. Mine is about on par with an Arkansas stone and creates a very nice shaving edge. It has a permanent home in my small hone collection.

Thanks a lot marshal. I think that is the same stone. Luckily, I didn't even pay that much for it so I'll consider it a win. I'll be using it as a finisher for my razors.
