    Default Unusual questions

Hello! first thanks for this wonderfull forum!

I got a new Dovo Ibenholt knife and a Naniwa Superstone #12 12000 stone. Im wondering which waterstone i need, would it be enough with the norton 4000/8000 combination stone to fill the gap to 12000? or would i need a 10000 aswell? Ive tried sharpening it for a long time with the 12000 without getting it sharp hehe.

Also i have another question, i have some chroma 301 kitchen knives, and you can buy a wetstone set to sharpen these, going from 200-8000 could i just buy the norton starter kit set or something similar too sharpen both the straight razor and the kitchen knives?
theres an sharpening instructionsvideo explaining how and which stones that are used here

thanks very much for all the info i get, really helping me alot!

the 12k is fast enough to refine 8k scratch pattern .

For kitchen knives you do not need to go above 5k , so your 4k Norton will do the job.

Not sure i understand the expression fast and scratch pattern, but you mean that the gap between those isnt too big? so and 8k stone and 12k will be enough?

Yes, for the kitchen knives i wont you use more than 4k, but i need something below like 200, 1000 and maybe 3000 to cover the gap between the 1000 and 3000?

    Thanks again!

each grit produces scratches with different depth and width. The 12k will sucesfully remove the scratches from your 8k.

For your knives 1k before the 4k will do. What knives do you plan to sharpen?

I plan do the the chroma 301 series, the whole series from chefs knife to fruit knife, its the offciall way to sharpen those. so basically the norton kit will cover all those?

    Thanks again!

Should be able to, they are not made with very hard steel.
