Magpie, I totally agree with you. At the same time, this site has a wiki, and its purpose is to summarize what the community has learned. So if a newbie like me doesn't find something in the wiki, its reasonable to assume that the question is fair game.

As a side-question - I may update the wiki a bit if you guys don't mind - do we need moderators give me special rights to do that?
