Thanked: 66hone ident help please
picked up these two hones at an antique/flea market over the weekend.
would appreciate any identification if possible.
2.0 x 6.0 x 0.75 thick
im assuming coticle here but it has some coloration/pattern within it. smoother to the touch than the 'select' i have. am i also right to assume that the bottom is slate, not BBW. i think - not sure - but it appears to say 'extra choice' something stamped on the surface.
1.25 x 7.5 x 0.5 think
this is light purple in color with very (very) small silver sparkles all throughout. feels pretty darn smooth.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

Thanked: 2284First one is definitely a coticule. Give it a good lap until flat, and then have some fun with it. As for the other, can't say for sure. Give it a lap as well, then post some pics with water and slurry. Should help some of the stone guys identify it.

Indeed, the first is a coticule, likely backed by a blue stone (slate backing is a relatively new thing).
The second one, possibly another blue stone?
