    kind of hard to tell without it being cleaned up. almost looks like a carborundum. try getting it out of the holder to see the other side. give it a good scrubbing with some degreaser like mean green from the dollar store. sometimes it may take a good long soak to get it clean.

    I haven't bought it yet , They want 25 for it, I know nothing about hones and this one has no markings anywhere on it or the box, do you think it would be worth 25, it looks to be in good shape, fairly even all the way down.. If you think it might be worth it I will get it and then see if can get out of the box.

    I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the stone. i am personally on the hunt for a finisher so i look for stones with a very smooth almost glass like feel. if it's a man made stone like a carborundum it will have a rough feel and a distinct oily smell and probably only be good for tools and such. hold on a little and someone with more experience should know a little more.
