Thanked: 13245A whole collection of Straight Razors I don't use I seem to use everyone else's during test shaves
Way too many hones, I have hones, I can't even remember where I got them at
Pre-Shave other than Noxema,, if I even remember that.
Most any aftershave that isn't Bay Rum or Lime or Bay Rum with Lime I have a ton, I try to use I really do
Strops I have quite a few,,, I use two, one for after honing, one for before shaving the rest just hang/lay there looking lonely
Damn this was a pretty depressing thread"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Thanked: 156It is strange isn't it we start off with one or two razors and hone and a strop...and years later and thousands of $$$ later we come to realize that a few good razors and 2-3 hones and a shrop is all you actualy need to enjoy the shave the rest of your life.
One must admit here is a strange satisfaction when looking at the bunch of shave stuff you gathered over the years and for the love of God i can't understand why i still want more)
It could have been anything else but somehow i'm glad it was this and i'm happy i found this place and got to know some of the wonderfull people that make it what it is...the Meca of all whet shaving.
Thank you gentlemen for beeing a part of the experience!

Natural stones. I don't use them at all anymore. I used to think that a really good edge had some magical element to it. But the fact is, I simply don't prefer the edges from naturals or definitely no more than a good synthetic. I recently received a shave ready razor from a reputable source that was obviously honed on a natural stone. It's just not my cup of tea. And they are fickle as all hell. This one works, this one doesn't. This one has hard crystals that scratch. They need to be figured out. All of that nonsense. And I don't find them any better after all of that trouble.
What else don't I use? Pastes and sprays. Any other brush but my Simpsons Polo 10 unless I'm traveling. Most other soaps but for Barrister and Mann.

What I don't use anymore are large bench hones! All of my razor honing for the past four-five years has been done hand-held with relatively small stones.
I've been pretty happy with the travel set-up I've been using for the past three months, ranging from restoring razors with visible chips to daily stropping with the occasional touch-up: 6" x 2" DMT coarse whetstone (lapping); 6" x 2" DMT fine whetstone (visible chips, very rare slurry generation); 135mm x 40mm Suehiro 1k/3k synth combo (bevel-setting double whammy); no. 6 BBW/coticule natural combo ("nouvelle veine"); 130mm x 35mm AJ Welsh purple slate; 200mm x 40mm Herold red-pasted, scored balsa/oiled Russian leather paddle strop.
So right now, I'm not really using anything else.Last edited by Brontosaurus; 08-26-2017 at 02:39 PM.

My Norton 4/8k.
My DMT 1k.
Either C-Nat.
My Frictionite 00's.
They've all given me good results, but having moved on to Shapton glass hones and lapping film, I haven't felt the need to go back.
Oh, actually, I do use my huge C-Nat as a solid base for lapping film.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Nice. I'm really enjoying my little handheld Ocean Blue 12k for travel. Just moved it into the shaving den recently for quick touch-ups when I'm not traveling. But I do have one question. How do you set a bevel on such little handheld stones?
Seems like it would be much easier and reliable to set a bevel on a bench stone, no?"I get some lather and lather-up, then I get my razor and shave! Zip Zop, see that? My face Is ripped to shreads!"

I don't use disposable razors, I don't use drugs,, but I make up for it by drinking too much. oh other razor related stuff I don't use,, all the prep I did in the beginning, my shaves are just as good without it Tc
