Thread: Dealing with uneven feel

hi,

In my journey into honing I've just recently noticed a different feel in both sides of the edge.
In my "away" stroke I clearly feel/hear smoothness and a drag/suction onto the stone.
On my "towards-me" stroke I hear and feel a more abbrassive sound, kinda like sandpaper perhaps(hard to describe in words), and the drag is a lot less but still noticable.

How should I proceed with this? Do I keep honing till both edges feel the same as now it seems clear that one side is not as good as the other ...
Or should I kill the edge and start over again? or ?

Also when honing the same razor, do I have to kill the edge everytime? (by pulling it on the corner of the stone or glass)
The razor shaves quite OK allready but can be improved ...

I've done the marker test and couldn't find notice anything off.

Uneven pressure? not quite sure ... Might very well be the case as I'm still doing trial and error ...

It's just a technique or feel issue. You're not physically built the same going away and coming toward, so if you were able to measure forces, it's not as if the force on razor would be identical both going away and coming back.

With good technique you want to be reasonably even in both directions, but you don't have to be perfectly even - you just have to finish both sides. If the honing is good and the shaving is good, don't worry too much about it.
