Barber hones and their chacteristics
Over the next several months a series of vintage Barber hones and their characteristics will be tested, posted and discussed. The test method utilizes the 8000 grit edge as a base for a "shave ready edge". Tests are conducted on visual observation at 100X magnification of the edge before and after application to the hone surface.
The attached pictures are samples of SRP member "randydance" Randy Tuttle American Hone Co collection which was used for testing references. AMHC Barber hone formulations and ratios were also made available to help understand performance characteristics of specific hones. I would like to recognize and thank Randy for his on going contribution to the membership.
Many of these vintage type hones can be found on the open market and can be used to maintain your edge. These tests are a courtesy provided to members of the wet shaving community to help aid in understanding the performance of certain types of vintage barber hones. No specific grit ratings will be applied to these tests. Happy hunting.

I think we need a subforum for barber hone reviews by Modine.

Thank God someone is finally doing this.
