Default SWATY Franz Swaty Währing bei Wien (Austria) SRD model hone test

Here is the Swaty Wahring SRD Old Swaty Hone being tested. One of the most common hones found on the open market sometimes referred to as a Swaty 3 line hone. Branding can be on either end of the hone. No other literature came with this hone. This is a hard brown one sided barber hone that measures 5-1/8”L X 2”W X 7/16”H.

Two identical King Midas Extra Good razors were chosen to test this Barber hone. Both razors were taken to a 1K-4K-Norton 8K level. One of the razors was then progressed to the approx. 15K level on a much finer stone. The edges were visually inspected at 100X magnification at each interval.

8 X-laps, strokes or passes were made with each razor on the Swaty Wahring bei Wien SRD version to see if it would improve or degrade the razor taken to the Norton 8K edge and the razor honed to the approx. 15K edge.

Conclusion, the Swaty 3 line SRD model barber hone improved the edge off an 8K Norton. This is a hard smooth barber hone that imparted no wire edge after 8 laps. This is a nice mellow barber hone. Stropping on leather or a properly pasted strop can smooth the edge even more.
