Thread: Friendly worning about JNAT seller

I dont know if this is alowed here but seeing my recent experience and a close friend's experience with the same reputade JNAt seller i need to get a stone of my heart and maybe help other members here avoid bad buying experiences.

I met this guy J. B. on Fb and Kitchen Knife forums.
He seemed a genuinly nice guy. We were friends for @ 1 year and talked a lot. He seemed to be pretty knowledgeble about JNAts and had a huge collection of stones.

I liked one of his stones and proposed to buy it..he proposed a trade. One of my Iwaaky western razors for his stamped Hatanaka Kopa khan kiita. Seemed like a fair trade.

We agreed to send eachoter the items. I sent the razor and a coticule as a gift for his birthday.
He never sent back the JNAT.
I repetedly asked for the stone or my items back.
6 months later after many excuses he could not mak it tohe post office and that he moved to a new house...
i gave him an ultimatum ant let him know i was contacting my firm's atourney.

Needless to say the stone was hipped the next 2 days...and i have recived it safe and sound.

About the same time we made the trad i recomended him to a friend wo bought 2 huge stones a Renge suita and another suita...
they were shipped standard international tracked but not insured.

The package arrived with both of the stones broken.
This is what the man understands by i packed your very expensive stones well.









These stones were not chep. And Although the money arrived safe and sound it seems that my friend is responsible for not getting insurance on shipping...oh well....Be very carefull who you buy from. Things like these can hapen to anyone.

What a dummy and what a waste of good stones. That's happened to me quite often, but I'm buying much less expensive stones, and probably from antique pickers in Japan.

If he has no recourse, I'd glue the one that delaminated cleanly and cut short the other one at the end (it should cut cleanly with a hacksaw) and split the broken part into two tomos

Man that sucks, sorry to hear that, im always scared when i know a stone is coming in the mail for this exact reason. i got a skinny naniwa once that was cracked but it was from a store and they replaced it no problems, ever since that day i worry.

that is actually a fantastic solution to make the best of it.

The down side is the $$$ is lost it was payed ff so Pp. PP cant step in. And my friend cant do anithing about it.
Just a friendly reminder when you buy stones get insurance, make sure the seller packs them apropriatley, marks them FRAGILE. And most important...only buy from ppl with a solid reputation otherwise this could be you and there is nothing you can do about it....sad but true.

And dont pay by F.F. on paypal! Add the fees in the price. It could have save your friend a lot of issues about the money. Now if it someone you really trust, then F.F. is ok to use. But be really sure about who you send money via F.F. paypal!

I work in an outbound warehouse, i can tell you one thing.. marking a parcel as FRAGILE makes it a target, our couriers have told me as much, i put FRAGILE stickers on parcels all day, but if im sending something from one country to another and it is actually fragile, i make sure it is packaged like bomb proof and put no markings on it. a fedex guy told me, when the guys at the depot see a 'fragile' or 'handle with care' sticker they take less care with it an a royal mail guy actually confirmed this also.

That's just sad, and that's putting it very lightly.


Secondly, I wouldn't even be surprised if he damaged the stones himself before shipping them out. Just sayin'

There are lots of flippers out there that sound knowledgeable but one must not forget all the info is available on the internet, and easy to regurgitate and present as knowledge.
