W.R. Case Barber hone test
Here is a W.R. Case barber hone. This was found in the wilds of Oklahoma. No box or other instructions were present. This represents one version of W.R. Case barber hones. The surface is flat and true. Measurements are 6” L x 2” W x ½” H. Here is some history of W.R. Case Company. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...-brothers.html
Two identical King Midas Extra Good razors were chosen to test this barber hone. Both razors were taken to a 1K-3K-8K Norton level. One of the razors was then progressed to the approx. 15K level. The edges were visually inspected at 100X magnification at each interval.
8 X-laps, strokes or passes were made with each razor on the W.R. CASE barber hone with soap lather to see if it would improve the razor taken to the 8K Norton edge and the razor honed to the approx. 15K edge.
Conclusion: The razors edge was significantly improved off the 8K Norton. Much improvement was indicated by the edge refinement and smoothness of the abrasion pattern. This is a fast cutting, effective synthetic hone. 8 to 24 laps will easily refresh an edge to the approx. 15K level without any sign of a wire edge forming. This is another one-sided hone that compares to the 00 Frictionite in performance. Stropping on leather only would be enough to prep the edge for shaving.

It just goes to show, Tc. You never know. Back when I used them a lot I had a few which were great.
As I got some proper hones, I let some new guys have them.
I have a stack of a dozen or so still. Some NOS.
Thanks again for Mike doing this.
I am too lazy to test them!
THEN, there is Hirlau with a trunk-full!
