Default Cattaraugus Injun #9 Little Valley , NY Barber hone test

Here is a Cattaraugus Injun #9 barber hone. The box is intact as well as the instruction sheet. This is not to be confused with other Cattaraugus #3 or #14 or Green Lizard hones. Measurements are 5”L x 2”W x 6/16”H +-. If anyone has any additional documentation please feel free to post.

Two identical King Midas Extra Good razors were chosen to test this barber hone. Both razors were taken to a 1K-3K-8K level. One of the razors was then progressed to the approx. 15K level. Edge improvement was evident at the 8K level so an additional 16 laps were made. The edge was visually inspected at 100X magnification at each interval.

Conclusion: The 8K razors edge was improved. This is a fast cutting, effective synthetic hone. 8 to 24 laps will easily refresh an edge without any sign of a wire edge forming. This is a nice mellower one sided hone that is olive drab green color. Sharpness is increased when making more than 8 laps. Stropping on leather only or a "properly" pasted strop would smooth out the sharpness.
