Default Pike Handihone Barber hone test

Here is the PIKE HANDIHONE. This is a hard one sided barber hone measurements are 3-3/4”L x 2”W x 7/16”H. This particular barber hone is interesting because someone carved a nice box out of cedar and gave it to a Barber as a gift. If anyone has any additional documentation on PIKE barber hones, please feel free to post.

Two identical King Midas Extra Good razors were chosen to test this barber hone. Both razors were taken to a 1K-3K-8K level. One of the razors was then progressed to the approx. 15K level. The edges were visually inspected at 100X magnification at each interval.

8 X-laps, strokes or passes were made on the PIKE HANDIHONE trademark side with soap lather to see if it would improve the 8K edge. The edge showed slight improvement and started to show signs of a wire edge forming in spots along the edge when observed again under 100X magnification. There was no reason to test the appox. 15K razors edge.

Conclusion, the PIKE HANDIHONE did slightly improve the 8K edge by increasing sharpness. This is an aggressive and fast cutting razor hone and recommend that no more than 8 to 12 passes be done. Stropping on leather or a pasted strop would smooth the edge even more.
