    Default Rosy Red Washita find!

I have been looking for one of these for a while now. I have two lily whites and a number one so finding one of these is like a cherry on top. It is not labled but I am 99.9999% sure it is a example of one. Nice box it came in too. Hope you guys like!Name: DSC00882.jpg

    Nice set of Washita's.
Love mine, perfect post bevel setter, in a natural honing progression. IMO

And can do much more, in the right hands.

I agree 100% I love my washitas. They are so flexable and useful in so many situations.
I know synthetics are faster but to me they are not as dynamic and satisfying to use. The two synths that had a little of that to me are the chosera 1k and naniwa 8k snow white. Still I use my naturals 95%of the time. Only exemption is if the knife or razor has chips or a real bad spine wear, then I pull out the chasera 400 or 1k. Then naturals all the way to finish.

Nice set of hones, I'm a fan of washitas too. I've got a small collection of them, most the brown/tan mottled variety with slight translucence along the edges. One looks like the narrow hone you have there, a square looking at the end. Very, very good hones.

But my favorite is my Lily White. Can set a bevel and go a long ways into a progression, nearly to the end. A while back a member here (Steel) coached me as I learned novaculite honing. It's a great way to hone because it's challenging and rewarding, so it keeps it interesting. I've been able to go from the Lily White to a translucent and that's it. Two hones and shaving bliss, due to the capabilities of the washita. I'm just not always consistent with it, I get it most of the time though. I know Steel has it down pat, the two hone Lily White/surgical black and done.

Here it is the day I found it at an antiques store, one I pass by all the time. Stopped in and they had this for $20, and it was probably that high because the carved wood box. For me, the whole wood box thing doesn't really excite me, I can take 'em or leave 'em, I just like the stones. Has some chips on the label side and part of the label is missing but the working side was in great shape, just dirty.

I cleaned it up, sealed the labels and lapped the working side...

My favorite is lily white too, because it is so versitile and capable. It cuts faster than my other lily and finer. That seems to be counter intuative but that stone is superb. My washita#1 cuts faster than them all but is no where near as fine. I use that one to correct bevels that are not too far gone.Name: DSC00877.jpg
