Far be it for me, but it is thin, old, blue, and on a plastic holder.
S 1000.
Nice one to jump to the 8K...If you must!
What ONE would go in-between perfectly? I want one!

Thanked: 3795I found that I really liked and really disliked the SuperStone 1k (thin old blue mounted on plastic). I've gone through three of them. It is buttery smooth but it really loads up fast. You can clear it with just rubbing it with your hand, but it's certainly not a workhorse. Before I got around to getting the Naniwa Chosera 1k, my go to honing was done on a Shapton Pro 1k followed by that buttery smooth SuperStone 1k to prep for the higher grits.

Indeed, it seems to be a rare bird.
I was on a Norton 1k .
While it worked, wasting my life away!
Accidentally bought the 1k S1000 and found it much nicer.
Anything off it was usually golden. Took a while, Still..
Then came the green hone. While really fast, no such luck, so I put the blue 1K in between. Not a lot. 50 reps.
Bingo!

Thanked: 3795I hated the Norton 1k. Still do. Years ago JimmHAD loaned me his entire set of Shapton Pros (which are now owned by Randy) and I found that I only really liked the lower grit hones. My success rate going through the full progression only was about 70% so I did not care for the entire progression but I continued to like the lower grits. My standard honing procedure was to set the bevel with the Shapton Pro 1k and then transitioning to the SuperStone 1k. I was perfectly content with that for bevel setting. If I needed something more aggressive I had the Chosera 400, 600, and 800. Despite all the praises of the Chosera 1k, I felt no need for it for a few years. I only eventually bought it to understand what everyone else was talking about.
They were right.

Indeed, I crammed a bunch of stuff outback's way and he went and got me the Chosera 1K and the 600 stone. What a favor. A miracle! Still, a bit rough?

Thanked: 3795I don't know what you mean by a bit rough, unkess you mean in terms if being able to transition directly to an 8k.
I have shaved just fine off of both the Chosera 1k and the 600. With a light touch at the end of their use, I do not consider either of them to be a bit rough.
