Hohenzollern Abziehstein Hone (Droescher)
I got this one here as a stone in a lot along with a labeled Lily White and some Arkansas slip stones. It only had a small patch of label left and I figured I would never know what it was. I contacted Peter (Hatzicho) to see if he would have a lead. While waiting for a response I stumbled on the Hohenzollern Abziehstein label and saw it was a match including the peculiar box and odd size. They all matched and Peter confirmed and provided a link where he gives a history of them. They are Thuringian (see post below for link for more information on it) As an avid Novaculite user I am trying to find a spot for this stone as it is really fun to hone on and it leaves a silky smooth edge. Not a sharp as my hard black Arkansas edges but more comfortable. Even a blind pig........

Thanked: 315Interesting hone. Never heard that name and it is a mouthful! If you can't find a place for it, I probably can.

As you will see from Peter's response it is possibly from Escher BUT there is no confirmation of that.Last edited by Steel; 07-05-2018 at 07:46 PM.

Fantastic score!
Here are a couple of quick pictures of mine :
I have read that some consider these stones to be more desirable than Escher's.
It took me years to find this one.
Congratulations and enjoy!

Thanked: 315I was wondering if there was a connection because of the DroESCHER name.

If you look closely, mine doesn't have that name on the label.
I think that is a reference to who the importer was, of which there were only a very select few.
I believe Droescher was one of the few.
Of course the possibility exists that there was only one importer that had a few distributors and Droescher was one of them.
The bottom line on mine says : Sole Importers Farwell Ozmun Kirk & Co. St.Paul, Minn.
Hope this helps.

Thanked: 4827Servin R Droescher was an importer of quality goods. I would not expect a direct connection. Ther were razors, hones of several variations including Escher and barber hones, strops and scissors

Yes. In the thread linked above Peter (Hatzicho) explains that Droescher and Farwell Ozmun Kirk & Co. St.Paul, Minn. were the two importers and it may be (based on the labels) that Farwell Ozmun Kirk & Co. was later and after Droescher as the label (FOKC) looks a bit more modern. I do really enjoy the edges off the stone and it is stupid simple to use and very fast. It is like a natural synthetic.
