Default Chosera 10k cut in two.

My Chosersa 10k had developed cracking over the years and eventually the cracks were scratching the bevels.

Last week I took it to a local stone masons and had them cut it into two pieces, hoping it wasn't cracked all the way through.

The results were good . The cracking is about 5 to 10mm deep .

The underside and sides were coated in a plastic spay which was unsuitable for a bench stone so I took that off and coated it with two coats or Urushi lacquer .

I am left with a spare thinner piece which I have some plans for.

    Pictures aplenty

    Hi Mike,
My 5k is cracked and my 1k has developed a single fissure but they both work fine.

My plan is to break down the remaining 10k piece into different shapes and try them for hand sanding on blades and then break down the 1 & 5k .
Then I would have a sanding progression 1-5-10k . I have been thinking about doing this for a long time but never had the heart to destroy a 10k.

At the same time I would buy new 1/5k and Urushi them .

Nower days I don't lap them under running water, just spray n lap, works fine.

So back in the day I had a 3K/8K combo stone separate on me and crack about half way down.

I ultimately bought a new one, but I made use of the peices for travel.

Underneath, I glued a couple of diamond “stones.”

This ultimately gave me two “stones” with 4 grits. 600, 1,200, 3,000, and 8,000.

They certainly work in a pinch, but I find myself doing weird things to knives with them more often than not. And by weird I mean putting on a 8K edge on a knife might be overkill lol..
