Thanked: 557Shapton Kuromaku professional ceramic whetstone orange, 1000 grit
Just received this new (to me anyway) 1000 grit hone. I have been using a DMT 1000 to set bevels and thought I’d try a water stone to see how the scratch patterns differ. The price was reasonable (about $50 CDN), so the investment did not seem outrageous.
Has any one had any experience with these splash-and-go hones?

I've used one once. The stone is very aggressive for it's grit rating. I kept making sure it was 1k while I was using it, as it was cutting so fast. I think the consensus is that the 1.5k Pro correlates with a 1k Chosera.

I've not used the 1k, but the 2k, 5k, and 8k are part of my usual progression. The 2k is my normal bevel setter. They're good stones, reasonably fast, but not as fast as the Glass HR. The Kuromaku is one of the better buys IMO.
Cheers, Steve

Thanked: 481I'd second this. I tend to defer to the 2k as a general use bevel setter/light repair stone, and only break the 1k out when I need a little more grunt than a standard 1k provides. That said, it does work fairly well. I enjoy the Kuromaku series. Have the 1, 2, 5, and 12k at hand.
