    I have cut rubbing stones off Thüringen hones using a mitre saw. Never had a problem other than the stone spiitting. Thüringers are prone to splitting anyway.

    I've cut quite a few Coticules with a band saw and a fine toothed metal cutting blade. Smooth cuts every time. A hack saw would most likely do the job well. I don't know how this would work with a schist backing but BBW cuts just fine this way.
