Thanked: 133New coticule
Got this from an ebay auction for pretty good price I think. I have been wanting a longer coticule for touching up razors before going to my smaller coti or fine jnat. It is a very nice size, 180mmx40mm and decently fast.

Very nice - good looking stone too!
I've loved on a Coti or two, but I'm hooked on my Arks right now. Naturals are a blast.David

Thanked: 133I don't have an ark yet but have been on the lookout for some vintage ones if I see any good deals.

Thanked: 3215Nice looking stone, but really a pre-finisher for your Jnat? A 1k is a pre-finisher.
Ok I get it, That’s what you told your bride, the guy version of “this old thing?”
I have bought many a stone, just because I liked how they looked. Enjoy.

In my personal experience with Coticules and after collecting a ton of 'em, there's not many I would buy anymore.
The one you showed is one I would buy, it's a great looking stone that I think will make for fantastic shaves, the Manganese spots are very good indication of a good quality stone

Well, there's that!
I went through a bad bout of coticule HAD several years ago, and would buy any coticule I found interesting and had funds for. Loved them, and still do. They were my first natural stone, and the baseline reference for me for any other stone, natural or not. All of them are interesting and beautiful to me, and worth owning. But not all produce a shaving edge. Most of mine do, maybe I've been lucky. I bought my very first coticule from Howard Schechter at the Perfect Edge, and it was really good, and got me started on coticule fever.
I've been away from the game for several years, and was concerned that maybe more recently mined stones just lack the quality of older stones. I don't want to get screwed if I buy another. My few disappointing coticules honestly seem to be evenly split between older and newer stones. And larger specimens are definitely getting more and more hard to find since I've been away, regardless of quality. I tend to like long, narrow stones best.
