Default Pride Abrasive Ceramic Water Hones

Saw these newly (to me) added to the Lee Valley website and went to the manufacturer’s site to have a look.

Pride Abrasive Ceramic Water Stones - Lee Valley Tools
[NOTE - Lee Valley prices are $CAD]

Anybody have any experience with them?

Seem less expensive than similar synthetic Japanese stones and the claim is they cut much more quickly.

They look like if I had HAD or did not have a fairly recent set of Naniwas, that I would be testing those out.

Interesting, not cheap, the site I looked at had the 8k stone for $115.00USD. Be interesting to see if they come out with something in a finer grit. Glad to see someone manufacturing in the good old USA again!

I get the impression that those are on par with the Sigma Power Select line... Do I get that right?

They look interesting, but not cheap. Considering I've already got a full set of hones from the likes of Shapton, Suehiro and Naniwa I won't be likely to try them. I don't usually like to bother with hones that need to be soaked either - these say 20-30 minute soak recommended.

Edit: just noticed the Canadian Dollar bit. Didn't catch that the first time, thought it was USD. Price is a bit more reasonable then.

I double-checked about the SPS, and no, that's not going to be on par. The "Good" SPS series sold in Japan has nearly no binder. There is another series that has binder... confusing! Not sure which series Lee Valley sells.

No, not used them, but at $100 8k, not cheaper than known great performers, 10k is $150-190. An 8k Junpaku is about $100 and the Shapton Pro $70, Glass $115

There was a review pass around about a year ago on CKTG forum, knife guys gave them an OK, but no rave review, claimed needed lots of soaking and were muddy.

Though they are mostly knife guys, they were not impressed.

Thanks for letting us know. Stones are so expensive, so we gotta be careful to buy the better ones.
